Co-Chairman

Jerry Price

Jerry Price is Co-Chairman of the Benton Harbor Education Foundation. He is a 1990 graduate of Benton Harbor High School.

Jerry serves as the Development Director for the YMCA of Southwest Michigan. Jerry is also the founder of The MLH Group, a grassroots non-profit dedicated to community transformation through leadership training, real estate acquisition, and neighborhood development.

Jerry lends his time to the community by serving on the Board of Directors for Harbor Habitat for Humanity, Feeding America Southwest Michigan, Executive Committee Kitchenaid Senior PGA Championship, and as a group leader for Michigan’s Great Southwest Strategic Leadership Council.

Jerry and his wife Sherri reside in the City of Benton Harbor.

Audrey Salesberry

Audrey Salesberry is a Director of the Benton Harbor Education Foundation. She is the Treasurer of BHEF. Audrey was born and raised in Benton Harbor and graduated from Lake Michigan Catholic School.

Audrey graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Sienna Heights University and is currently employed as a Certified Public Accountant with Kruggel Lawton CPA’s in St Joseph for the past 15 years. Audrey has been involved with audit, review and compilation engagements, as well as tax preparation and bookkeeping services. She currently specializes in business accounting services as a QuickBooks consultant. Audrey is a member of the AICPA and MICPA professional organizations.

Audrey is active with several nonprofits in the area volunteering and serving on boards. She is a member of the St Joseph/Benton Harbor Kiwanis club serving as youth services chair and BH Kiwanis key club advisor.

In her free time, Audrey enjoys spending time at her summer cottage, gardening, boating, and relaxing with her family.

Isiah Newson

Isiah Newson is a Director of the Benton Harbor Education Foundation.

Originally from Hughes, Arkansas, Isiah moved to Benton Harbor, MI in 1968 after serving a tour in Vietnam while in the United States Army.

Isiah married his best friend and soul mate, Diana, and along with a son from a previous marriage, they have four adult sons and five grandchildren.

Isiah earned a dual major in Accounting and IT/Computers at State Tech University in Memphis, Tennessee and was a Deans List student. He began his career with the Internal Revenue Service in Memphis and moved back to Benton Harbor in 1988. Isiah retired from the IRS in 2009.

Isiah’s love and passion for kids led him to coach little league baseball and was a key leader in bring AYSO Soccer to Benton Harbor serving as Commissioner and coaching soccer for years.

Isiah has had a commitment to education in Benton Harbor. He has been involved in multiple endeavors to demand improvements to schools and has also lead training programs.

Isiah is very community active serving on the committees of Council for World Class Communities (CWCC) specifically in Education, The Alliance Group, Cornerstone Alliance, Curious Kids Museum, United Way (Audit Committee), and IMAC (Independent Minority Area Contractors). In 2012 he was the recipient of the Rev Donald B Adkins Annual Leadership Award for Citizenship. In 2014, Isiah was selected as the first annual Senior PGA volunteer of the year award recipient, in honor of the late Dr. John M Proos, Sr.

Isiah’s proudest achievement is being a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.

Patrick Allkins

Patrick Allkins is a Director of the Benton Harbor Education Foundation.

Patrick is a 1967 graduate of Benton Harbor High School.

He enlisted in the US Navy serving in Viet Nam from 1970 to 1979 receiving numerous citations. Upon separation, Patrick attended Lake Michigan College and then graduated from Western Michigan University.

In 1985, Patrick launched The OnStaff Group which is made up of three companies: OnStaff USA, Skillquest International and OnCore USA. The OnStaff Groups corporate headquarters is in Kalamazoo and offers human resource solutions to Fortune 500 companies.

Patrick is a Kalamazoo Rotarian, a Trustee of the Kalamazoo Valley Community College Foundation, and a member of the KREISA Advisory Board for EFE.

Kevin Kellenberger

Kevin Kellenberger is a Wisconsin native who became a teacher of Physical Education and Health. He holds a BA degree from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. While at UW Oshkosh, Kevin played on a highly successful basketball team that finished third in the nation

Kevin Kellenberger is a Wisconsin native who became a teacher of Physical Education and Health. He holds a BA degree from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. While at UW Oshkosh, Kevin played on a highly successful basketball team that finished third in the nation. The health and physical well-being of his students has been Kevin’s passion and he has taught PE/Health at every level in K-12 education. Working with kids has been important to him and being a Board Member of the Benton Harbor Education Foundation is part of his contribution to our community in retirement.

In his spare time, Kevin bicycles, walks and maintains fitness. He is also a history buff with a particular interest in WW2 history and reads history extensively.

Shari Weber

Co-Chairman

A credit union professional for the past 18 years Shari Weber has a diverse background in the financial industry. She is currently the Chief Financial Officer of Honor Credit Union which began in the Benton Harbor High School as Berrien Teachers Credit Union in 1934. Shari was elected to the Executive Committee of the CUNA Finance Council in May 2017 and is currently the Vice-Chair of both the Engagement and Member Resource Committees. Shari started the CFO Networking Group for CFOs in the credit union industry. She has been a member of the Global Women’s Leadership Network, World Council of Credit Unions since 2014.

Shari is passionate about volunteering in the community. She is a member of the Women’s Giving Circle in Berrien County. Former board affiliations include United Way of Southwest Michigan, Harbor Habitat for Humanity in Benton Harbor, The Niles District Library and the Buchanan Chamber of Commerce.

Martha Hesse

Martha Hesse is a Director of the Benton Harbor Education Foundation. She is the Secretary of the BHEF.

Martha is a retired college professor of IT from the Chicago area, worked as an IT consultant until moving to St Joseph in 2017. She holds a BBA from Notre Dame University, an MA from National Louis University near Chicago, and a post-graduate certificate in online curriculum development from UCLA.

With tenor Paul Mow, Marty recently co-founded The GhostLight Theatre in the Benton Harbor Arts District. She is a pianist and organist, and has worked as music director and orchestra conductor for a variety of theaters in Chicago, Kalamazoo, Holland and Saugatuck.

Marty has been a board member and board officer for many organizations, including Prairie State College Foundation (provides college scholarships), Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, Saugatuck Civic Theater, Allegan Area Arts Council, and she is currently the Treasurer of the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors. She has a passion for opening doors for youth and providing opportunities to excel in technical fields and performing arts.

The mother of 5 children, Marty and her husband Don Dettman, enjoy adventurous travel and entertaining, and are greatly enjoying retirement!

Ebon Sanders

Ebon Sanders is a Director of the Benton Harbor Education Foundation.

Ebon Sanders has served as the Executive Director of The First Tee of Benton Harbor since its inception in 2004. During this time, Ebon has guided the implementation of many youth development programs, including the Nancy Tennant Golf & Leadership Academy, the Summer Life Skills Experience and The Coalition that reach over 4,000 young people annually.

In 2015 Ebon was recognized with The First Tee Chairman’s Award. A designation awarded to the top Executive Director in 170 chapter network of The First Tee. Also, in 2015, The First Tee of Benton Harbor was also awarded the Barbara A. Douglas—Dr. William J. Powell Diversity Award, recognizing the chapter as a leading force for diversity within The First Tee Network. In 2017 The First Tee of Benton Harbor was awarded the inaugural James C. McGlothian Award. This award, given by The First Tee Home Office, recognized The First Tee of Benton Harbor as the number one small market chapter, relative to positive community impact, in The First Tee Network.

In his spare time, Ebon volunteers with many community boards and initiatives and enjoys all sports, reading and spending time with his family.

Ervin “Poncho” Eddie

Poncho is a Director of the Benton Harbor Education Foundation and a member of the grants and projects committees.

A fourth generation native of Benton Harbor, he was a BHAS honor student and has been a leader his entire life. He graduated top ten in his class at BHHS and went on to receive a full presidential scholarship to Alabama State University where he graduated with honors, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing.

Upon graduating, he joined Whirlpool Corporation in which he has thrived for over 22 years from positions within brand marketing, sales and sales training.

An advocate for youth empowerment and community development, he has served in positions as a director of marketing and also an administrative director for a nonprofit organization in the state of New Jersey and currently serves as a youth advisor at Refreshing Fountains Outreach Ministries located in the community of Benton Harbor. Poncho strongly encourages his motto of “I was not born unto defeat, neither does failure course through my veins”. He resides in Benton Harbor, MI.

Linda Miller

Linda Miller is a 1969 graduate of Benton Harbor High School also graduated from Lake Michigan College. Linda left the area after graduation and then returned in 1980.

Linda was Office Manager for Design Incentives, Inc. for 18 years, a Corporate Incentives/Promotional Products Company. Linda is very active in the community. She is a long-term Member of The Avenue Family Network and she is the Volunteer Services Committee Chair for the KitchenAid SPGA.
Married to Joseph Miller, Linda has raised three children and loves being with her four grandchildren. In her spare time, Linda enjoys time with family and friends, travel, and golf.

Alloyd Blackmon

Alloyd Blackmon is a Director of the Benton Harbor Education Foundation and Vice Co-Chair of the Grants & Projects Committee.

Alloyd grew up in Northeast Indiana and graduated with an MBA and Bachelor degrees from Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana. Alloyd joined Whirlpool Corporation in 1989 in Benton Harbor, Michigan and has worked for Whirlpool for 29 years in a number of leadership roles and locations. Alloyd also oversees the Benton Harbor Promise, a post-secondary scholarship program for Benton Harbor students. Alloyd joined the board in 2017 as Vice Co-Chair of Grants and Projects because she believes that all students deserve and need the best possible educational experience in order to succeed in life. Education without a doubt is the pathway and it’s our responsibility to help Benton Harbor youth travel it to the best of their ability. Alloyd enjoys spending time with her children and their many activities as well as giving back to the community lending her talents however possible to several other local organizations.

Michael Birkholm

Michael Birkholm is a Director of the Benton Harbor Education Foundation and Chairman of the Marketing and Fundraising Committee.

Michael is a 1969 graduate of Benton Harbor High School. He is a 1973 graduate of the University of Michigan with a BA in American Government. He has also completed a Corporate Business Program at the University of Virginia.

Michael’s business career began with management positions with Roadway Express and International Harvester. He worked for American Greetings Corporation for twenty years finishing as Sr. Vice President of Operations. He finished the last ten years of his career as President of Darice Inc. a mid-sized consumer products company. Michael retired in 2017.

Michael has served on numerous Boards including the Craft and Hobby Association, the Lakeland Foundation and the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railway.

Michael and his wife Carol live in Benton Harbor and enjoy boating, the outdoors, their six grandchildren and travel.

Ernie Hudson

Ernie was born and raised in Benton Harbor. After high school, Ernie enrolled at Wayne State University in Detroit and became the resident playwright at Concept East the oldest Black theatre company in the US. Ernie established the Actors Ensemble Theatre. Later, he enrolled in the Yale School of Drama and subsequently graduated from there.

There has followed a long and successful career in acting roles on a national scale. His career has ranged from a primary role in the original Ghostbusters movie to a long list of television roles. An extensive list of other credits include the HBO series “Oz”, the movie Miss Congeniality, and “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.”

Ernie and his wife Linda live primarily in California and have four children.

Tameka K. Robertson

Tameka Robertson was born and raised in Northern Indiana. She received a BA in Paralegal and Organizational Management from Calumet College of St. Joseph in Whiting, Indiana.

Tameka Robertson was born and raised in Northern Indiana. She received a BA in Paralegal and Organizational Management from Calumet College of St. Joseph in Whiting, Indiana. Tameka relocated to Benton Harbor in 2005 with her husband and two sons, and then started a new career at the Whirlpool Corporation. “Throughout my career at Whirlpool I have held leadership roles in various departments which include but not limited to the Product Review Board and the Executive Department.”

Tameka is a board member of Whirlpool's Employee Resource Group, FOCUS the African American Network. Her time with FOCUS has allowed her to enrich our community by creating engaging relationships that foster lasting successful personal growth.

Tameka says, “My passion for people and our continuous improvement is my motivation to volunteer in the community. I believe that a continued focus on our youth is essential and if we work together to remove barriers faced within our community we become stronger as one. A community with opportunities is a community of people with the ability to leverage their skillset while gaining new ones.”
